The number of LSM board members will be reduced to three in the future

The board of Latvijas Sabiedriskā medija (LSM) will be reduced to three members as mandated by government regulations, although it currently operates with five members.

The Latvijas Sabiedriskā medija (LSM) is set to reduce its board size from five members to three following government-specified regulations aimed at public capital management. These rules, established in mid-2022, dictate that public companies like LSM should align their board structures with the guidelines, mandating a maximum of three board members for medium-sized capital entities by the end of the calendar year.

Currently, the LSM board comprises Chair Baiba Zūzena along with four other members: Ieva Aile, Ilze Ogle, Inese Tanne, and Ingemārs Vekteris. The decision to downsize the board comes after a period in which the five-member structure has been in place since January 2025. The State Chancellery has confirmed that this reduction is part of ongoing reforms to streamline governance in public institutions.

With the impending changes, LSM must prepare for a transition to the new board configuration, which may involve determining which members will remain and how their roles will shift in a smaller leadership format. This restructuring is indicative of broader government efforts to enhance efficiency in public service management, reflecting a trend towards reduced bureaucracy in public sector organizations, potentially impacting their operational focus and oversight capacity moving forward.
