Itβs Not No: Santos Carnival will have a campaign against harassment and increased security
Santos Carnival will implement a campaign against harassment and other forms of violence towards women, reinforcing security measures during the festivities.
In Santos, located on the coast of SΓ£o Paulo, Brazil, the upcoming street carnival will incorporate measures aimed at raising awareness about harassment and sexual abuse against women. The initiative, dubbed "It's Not No: Respect My Decision," will be present at various carnival events until Tuesday, February 17, and marks the second edition of this campaign organized by the municipal Department of Women, Citizenship, Diversity, and Human Rights.
The campaign includes the distribution of free fans and stickers bearing the campaign's name, aimed at promoting a message of respect and consent among revelers. Additionally, the city has compiled advice on preventing violent situations and is encouraging reporting via the 180 hotline. The overarching goal is to ensure women can enjoy the carnival festivities safely, emphasizing that victims should never bear the blame for any harassment or violence they encounter.
