After the waters recede.. gradual return of flood victims in Morocco
Residents in flood-affected regions of Morocco are gradually returning home following improved weather conditions and government assistance.
Residents from four Moroccan provinces affected by recent devastating floods are starting to return to their homes as the weather improves. The Moroccan authorities have initiated a phased return for residents evacuated from their villages due to severe flooding, particularly in the provinces of Kenitra, Larache, Sidi Kacem, and Sidi Slimane, with detailed plans announced for safe reentry into designated areas.
To facilitate this return, the government has provided various means of transportation, such as free buses and trains, to help families relocate back to their communities. In addition, the government announced financial compensation for the victims, offering 140,000 dirhams (about $14,000) for homeowners whose properties were destroyed in the floods, along with additional fund allocations for affected families. This comprehensive plan includes a total support package of 300 million dollars aimed at helping the affected regions recover from this natural disaster.
The floods, which have persisted from January 28 to February 14, have caused significant destruction in multiple cities across the affected provinces. The return of residents signifies a hopeful step towards recovery; however, the extent of the damage and ongoing support measures will play a crucial role in the long-term rehabilitation of these communities.
