The weather remains cold - fair weather expected across the country towards the end of the week

A meteorologist from Yle reports a continuation of cold and dry weather in Finland this week, with specific temperature forecasts varying by region.

The weather forecast for Finland indicates persistent cold temperatures and dry conditions as the country approaches the winter holidays. According to Yle's meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander, a weak high-pressure system is influencing the weather, resulting in snowfall in southern regions on Wednesday, with a chance of light snow continuing into Thursday. However, by the end of the week, fair weather is expected nationwide, marking a change from previous predictions of a snowstorm that was anticipated to hit the country this weekend.

Temperatures across Finland are expected to remain significantly below freezing, with southern Finland experiencing temperatures nearly reaching -10 degrees Celsius. In contrast, northern regions could see temperatures plummet to over -20 degrees. Lohtander warns that the upcoming weekend could feel particularly harsh due to both the low temperatures—around -12 degrees in the south alongside a brisk wind—and the potential for a significant wind chill factor.

The alteration in the weather forecast comes as meteorologists had initially predicted a snowstorm to arrive on Sunday; however, recent updates suggest that this storm will bypass Finland to the south. The differing weather predictions underline not only the challenges of long-term forecasts but also highlight the importance of staying aware of changing conditions as the winter season progresses in Finland.
