Over 200 volunteers participated in a major cleaning effort along the Araguaia River, collecting waste over a distance of 120 kilometers.

More than 200 volunteers took part in a significant cleaning initiative along the Araguaia River, which included the use of around 30 boats for sustainable canoeing. The effort began on Friday, the 13th of October, in the district of São José, located in Xinguara, southern Pará, and concluded on Saturday, the 14th, in the city of Araguanã in Tocantins. This event highlighted community involvement and the importance of protecting local ecosystems.

The initiative was organized by the Xinguara city hall, in partnership with the municipalities of Piçarra, Sapucaia, and Araguanã, aiming to collect waste and preserve the natural heritage of the riverside communities. The volunteers, motivated by environmental consciousness, traversed over 120 kilometers of river, showcasing community dedication to environmental sustainability and ecological preservation.

This action reflects a growing awareness and urgency regarding environmental issues in Brazil, particularly concerning the cleanliness of waterways. By raising awareness about the importance of preserving the rivers and promoting community engagement in sustainability efforts, the initiative not only contributed to cleaning the river but also educated the public on environmental preservation, fostering a sense of responsibility among participants and the broader community.
