Thousands of volunteers will head out for clean-up, collecting tons of waste in the streets and in the forest
Thousands of volunteers in the Czech Republic are set to participate in the annual spring clean-up campaign, collecting tons of waste from urban areas and nature starting on March 20.
In the Czech Republic, thousands of volunteers are preparing for the annual spring clean-up, known as 'Ukliďme svět,' organized by the Czech Union for Nature Conservation (ČSOP). This year, the campaign will commence on March 20, with over 18,000 volunteers already signed up to restore cleanliness to the streets and natural environments. Participants can still register their own clean-up initiative or join pre-registered events available on the campaign's website.
Since its inception in 1993, the clean-up campaign has seen more than three-quarters of a million volunteers take part, collectively removing over 10,000 tons of waste from various environments. This initiative not only highlights the issue of litter but also symbolizes a collective effort towards environmental stewardship in the Czech Republic, encouraging community engagement and responsibility.
Alongside the clean-up activities, a new competition called upCYKLUS has been launched to promote awareness about waste reuse. This contest invites the public to transform seemingly useless items into new, functional objects, fostering creativity and sustainability. The best submissions, which can be entered until April 30, 2026, will be recognized, reinforcing the campaign's message that not all waste needs to remain as such and can be repurposed for beneficial uses.
