Mattei Plan for Africa, Menia: "A project that invests in the idea of global Italy"

Italian Senator Roberto Menia discusses the Mattei Plan for Africa, asserting it is a timely initiative for strengthening Italy's relations with the continent.

Following the second Italy-Africa summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Roberto Menia, Vice President of the Senate Foreign Affairs/Defense Commission and a member of the Brothers of Italy party, spoke positively about the Mattei Plan for Africa. Participating as an honored guest of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Menia challenged critics of the initiative by questioning why no prior Italian government has conceived a plan of this nature since 2011, indicating a missed opportunity that previous administrations had.

Menia emphasized the importance of the Mattei Plan in the context of international relations, noting that endorsement from major organizations like the European Investment Bank, World Bank, African Development Bank, African Union, and the United States signifies its significance. He argued that this collaboration denotes that Italy is making the right move at the right time on the global stage. Menia's remarks highlight a drive towards strengthening Italy’s strategic interests in Africa, which he believes have been overlooked in past political agendas.

Moreover, Menia pointed out that the essence of the Mattei Plan lies in Italy’s ability to adapt to global timing and practical considerations surrounding Africa's development. He acknowledged that the successful implementation of this plan could reshape Italy’s role in Africa, fostering new partnerships and economic opportunities that align with both nations' growth aspirations.
