Orai.lt: temperatures dropping – in some areas, 25 degrees below zero
The weather in Lithuania will see variable cloudiness, with a stark drop in temperatures reaching as low as 25 degrees Celsius below zero in some regions.
Lithuania is currently experiencing a drop in temperatures due to the influence of an anticyclone. In northern and western regions, cloud cover will be minimal, allowing for mostly clear skies, while the south may see some sun rays between intervals of clear weather. Snowfall is not expected, but icy conditions remain in certain areas. Winds will be weak and variable, with daytime temperatures expected to fall between 8 and 13 degrees Celsius, and in some places plunging to 16 degrees below zero at night.
On Monday night, Lithuania will continue to be under the influence of the anticyclone, although its center will be shifting northward. Cloud cover is anticipated to increase in northeastern Lithuania, while other regions will enjoy moonlit nights. The probability of snow remains low, with winds changing direction, blowing at speeds of 3 to 8 m/s. Temperatures at night could plummet to between 20 and 25 degrees below zero, with some areas experiencing 17 to 19 degrees Celsius below zero.
On Monday daytime, as the center of the anticyclone moves over Estonia, it will still play a significant role in determining local weather patterns. Variable cloud cover will persist, with larger parts of Lithuania experiencing some sunshine. Northeastern and eastern winds are expected to blow at 5 to 10 m/s, with maximum temperatures reaching 7 to 12 degrees below zero. Overall, the cold weather is a critical aspect for residents and may require heightened caution against the elements in the coming days.
