After the precipitation withdraws, it will get very cold again: temperatures may drop to 28 degrees below zero

Lithuania is expected to experience a significant drop in temperatures, potentially reaching as low as 28 degrees Celsius below zero after recent snowfall.

Following a period of light snow in southeastern Lithuania, the temperatures are anticipated to plummet as northern winds sweep across the region. Ice will continue to cover many roads and sidewalks, with high temperatures only reaching between -6 to -11 degrees Celsius during the day. As night falls on Sunday, clouds will thin out considerably, leading to clearer skies and a drastic drop in temperatures overnight, potentially falling between -20 to -25 degrees Celsius, and even reaching -28 degrees Celsius in northern areas.

On Sunday, the weather is expected to be sunny with no significant snowfall predicted. Winds are expected to calm down, contributing to the cold temperatures. After a frigid night, daytime temperatures are forecasted to rise slightly to between -8 to -13 degrees Celsius, but will remain well below freezing. The clear skies during the day may also enhance the chill felt outdoors, further impacting daily routines, particularly for those traveling in affected regions.

As for the holiday Monday, an anticyclone is forecasted, bringing mostly clear skies and no significant snow expected. This calming weather pattern will likely remain throughout the day, with very light winds at night and slightly warmer conditions during the day, providing a brief respite before the return of the harsher winter climate expected later. However, the overall trend remains towards extremely cold temperatures, which could pose challenges for residents and local transportation as winter fully sets in across Lithuania.
