Are you traveling on the Alóag-Santo Domingo road? Traffic jams reported on the first day of carnival holiday
Extreme vehicle congestion has been reported on the Alóag-Santo Domingo road, causing significant delays and frustration for users and transporters on the first day of the carnival holiday in Ecuador.
The Alóag-Santo Domingo road, recognized as Ecuador's main logistical artery, experienced severe vehicle congestion this Saturday, February 14, leading to significant delays and frustration among users and transporters alike. In the morning, traffic authorities opened only the uphill lane, closely monitored by ECU911. However, by midday, when both lanes were opened, a sharp traffic jam developed, especially at the toll area. The situation escalated as traffic was severely slow. Commuter Maribel Mosquera reported that a short distance between La Unión del Toachi and El Paraíso took nearly an hour to drive. This critical traffic congestion highlights the recurring issues faced by users, particularly on busy holiday weekends like this festive carnival period. In response to these ongoing problems, transport sector representatives have renewed their calls for the establishment of alternative routes and comprehensive improvements to prevent the collapse of this key roadway, especially during emergencies in secondary roads, such as the Calacalí-Pu route, which frequently exacerbate traffic issues during peak travel times.
