18-year-old skeleton athlete Andžāne debuts at the Olympic Games with a 17th place

18-year-old skeleton athlete Andžāne achieved 17th place in her Olympic debut after moving up three positions in her final run.

In her Olympic debut, 18-year-old skeleton athlete Andžāne from Floka finished in 17th place after improving her speed during her last run. Initially, she was in 18th position after three runs but managed to surpass legendary Canadian skeleton racer Jane Chanel by 0.06 seconds in the decisive round. Overall, Andžāne was 3.91 seconds behind the leader by the end of the competition.

The competition saw the more experienced skeletonist Floka, aged 36, finish in 14th place, with German racers Suzanna Krehere, Jacqueline Pfeifer, and Hanna Naize taking the next three positions. Floka, a four-time Olympic participant and last season's World Cup winner, started her final run with a slight 0.21-second handicap and struggled to maintain her pace, ultimately losing ground in the rankings.

The results indicate a competitive field, with minimal time differences among the racers. Andžāne's performance highlights the challenges young athletes face in Olympics while showing promise for future competitions. Her coach, Ivo Steinbergs, discussed her progress and potential ahead of the medal distribution day, emphasizing her growth and competitive spirit as a young talent in the sport of skeleton.
