Latvian athlete Marta Andžāne made her Olympic debut in the skeleton competition at the 2021 Winter Olympics held in Cortina d'Ampezzo, where she finished in 17th place. The event saw Austrian Janine Flock take the gold medal after winning three out of four runs, finishing ahead of Germany's Susanne Kreher by 0.31 seconds. This marked Flock's first Olympic medal in her long career, showcasing her skill and experience against a backdrop of strong competition.
During the competition, Andžāne’s performance fluctuated across her runs. She started off with placements of 19th and 18th in the first two heats before improving to 18th in the third run. In addition to Andžāne’s efforts, another Latvian athlete, Darta Zunte, who was representing Estonia, did not fare as well, concluding the event in 23rd place after trailing 6.45 seconds behind the winner.
