Launch of Emergency Landing Facility in Dibrugarh, New Strength for IAF on the Country's Eastern Border

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first Emergency Landing Facility in Dibrugarh, Assam, enhancing defense capabilities in the northeastern region.

On February 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in Dibrugarh, Assam, aimed at strengthening defense preparations in the northeastern part of the country. This emergency landing facility, developed on a national highway in Upper Assam, provides a critical backup option for the armed forces located in a region that is strategically important and located near international borders.

The Dibrugarh Emergency Landing Facility is part of a broader initiative to upgrade and activate airfields and alternate landing grounds across India. All advanced landing grounds of the Indian Air Force (IAF) have been modernized, while emergency landing facilities are being created on national highways to ensure that aircraft operations are not disrupted during crises, even if traditional air bases are damaged.

The strategic importance of this landing facility is underscored by its geographical location. It not only enhances the operational capability of the IAF in a sensitive strategic corridor but also ensures effective response capabilities in the region, which is vital for national security.
