The event unfolded after a distressing phone call with her fiancé, Pankaj, who works in the electricity department in Odisha. Reports suggest that during their conversation, a disagreement escalated, leading Anju to mention her intent to take her own life, prompting Pankaj to alert a friend who lived nearby.
Anju hailed from Jadugoda in Jharkhand and had been working at IIT Kanpur for the past three years. When her friend was unavailable, Pankaj sent his brother to check on her. Unfortunately, upon arrival, her brother found the room locked from the inside, and despite knocking, there was no response. After authorities gained access, they discovered Anju's lifeless body, alongside a diary containing significant notes that likely reflected her emotional turmoil.
