17-page suicide note reveals secrets,... AIIMS doctor suddenly took his life
A medical student's suicide in Gujarat's AIIMS hospital is linked to alleged bullying by peers, revealed through a suicide note.
In a troubling incident at the only prestigious AIIMS hospital in Rajkot, Gujarat, a significant development has emerged in the case of an intern doctor's suicide. The victim, Ratan Kumar Meghwal, a final-year MBBS student, reportedly took his life due to physical and mental harassment by five of his classmates. Following the revelation of the suicide note, which detailed his torment and mentioned past suicide attempts, Ratan's father, Mohanlal Meghwal, filed a complaint against the accused under various sections of the IPC and the Atrocities Act at the Gandhi Gram police station.
The suicide note brought to light the extreme pressures faced by medical students, including Ratan, who had been undergoing treatment for mental health issues due to the bullying he encountered. Notably, the note indicated that one of his female classmates was also involved in this harassment, emphasizing that the struggles faced by students in competitive and high-pressure environments can lead to tragic outcomes. In response to the findings, a local court ordered the judicial custody of all five intern doctors allegedly involved.
Ratan Kumar Meghwal, the son of a clock repairer from a village in Rajasthan, was not only battling academic pressures but was also struggling with his mental health, having attempted suicide previously. This case raises alarming questions about the mental well-being of students in medical fields and the need for better support systems within educational institutions to address issues of bullying and mental health concerns effectively.
