Mogi-Bertioga has over 20 km of traffic congestion this Saturday morning of carnival, says CNL

Traffic congestion in Mogi-Bertioga has reached over 20 kilometers as thousands of vehicles head to the coast for the carnival holiday in Brazil.

On the morning of Carnival Saturday, motorists traveling down the Mogi-Bertioga highway (SP-098) towards the coast encountered significant traffic congestion, with reports indicating over 20 kilometers of stalled vehicles. This congestion was anticipated by the Concessionária Novo Litoral (CNL), which manages the highway and expected a heavy flow of approximately 106,000 vehicles during the carnival period. By 8 a.m., drivers were warned that travel times could extend up to two hours, especially between kilometers 59 and 82 where the traffic was particularly slow.

Additionally, the congestion wasn't isolated to the morning; on Friday night, many drivers also faced delays on their descent to the coast, with conditions worsening around midnight at a crucial junction. This scenario reflects broader traffic management challenges typical during Brazilian holiday weekends, particularly in areas popular with tourists. The CNL has initiated a special operation, "Operação Carnaval," to manage the influx of travelers, which will be in effect until the following Wednesday.

As the carnival period progresses, expectations for traffic volume soar, with projections indicating a staggering 656,500 vehicles would travel along the Mogi-Dutra route (SP-088) over the four-day holiday. Authorities are continuously monitoring traffic conditions to ensure the safety and flow of vehicles during this peak travel time, underscoring the challenges faced by major transport routes in Brazil during festive seasons.
