MTV3's controversial show will not air today: Here is the reason
MTV3's controversial show 'Thank God, You Came' is taking a break this week, which is not due to falling viewership numbers.
MTV3 has announced that its controversial program 'Thank God, You Came' will not be aired this Saturday evening, taking a break this week. The pause is not attributed to the significant decrease in viewership that the show has experienced in recent weeks, as clarified by MTV3's producer Ellinoora Uusi-Kartano. Instead, the scheduling choice is related to the Winter Olympics coverage on competing channels, which had been considered during the planning of the spring season's programming.
Despite this explanation, the viewership numbers for 'Thank God, You Came' paint a grim picture. The show barely made it onto MTV3's most-watched programs list, maintained by Finnpanel. Its premiere episode secured the sixth spot with an average of 407,000 viewers, but the second episode plunged dramatically to the 17th position, attracting only 218,000 viewers. Just a week ago, its ranking fell further to 20th place with an average of 157,000 viewers, marking the lowest possible placement recognized by Finnpanel.
The overall decline in viewer engagement with 'Thank God, You Came' suggests potential issues with its content or format, raising questions about its sustainability in MTV3's lineup. The network's response, attributing the programming change to the Winter Olympics rather than viewership decline, may aim to protect the show's image while navigating a competitive broadcast landscape. It remains to be seen how the show's hiatus will affect its future and reception upon return from this break.
