Ricardo Nunes promises adjustments after turmoil at Consolação during pre-Carnival
São Paulo Mayor Ricardo Nunes announced plans to make adjustments following chaos at a pre-Carnival event on Rua da Consolação.
During the opening of the official parade at the Anhembi Sambadrome in São Paulo's northern region, Mayor Ricardo Nunes addressed the recent disturbances that occurred on Rua da Consolação during the pre-Carnival festivities. He stated that the municipal administration had identified several failures in the event's organization and is taking measures to rectify these issues to prevent future incidents. Nunes emphasized the need for improvements to ensure public safety during such massive gatherings.
The Mayor defended the execution of the Carnival event, highlighting its scale and importance to São Paulo, which has a population of over 15 million. He pointed out that despite the high number of revelers, there were no significant accidents reported, a fact he considered notable given the large gathering of participants. This comparison aims to reassure citizens and visitors about the management of safety at public events, particularly during high-attendance periods like Carnival.
Nunes declared that this year's Carnival is expected to be the largest in Brazil in terms of public participation, with estimates of around 350,000 attendees at the Sambadrome and over 16 million participating in street celebrations. The Carnival is anticipated to generate approximately 50,000 direct and indirect jobs, highlighting its economic significance for the city, and underscores the need for effective safety and organizational measures to support the event's success without compromising public safety.
