Hotel reservations nearly exhausted in Esmeraldas beach resorts due to Carnival holiday
The Esmeraldas province is experiencing high hotel occupancy rates ahead of the Carnival holiday, prompting authorities to implement a comprehensive operational plan for public safety and event management.
Along the coast of Esmeraldas, popular beach resorts such as Atacames and Tonsupa are nearing full hotel occupancy, with rates reaching 90% as the Carnival holiday approaches. The local government, led by police authorities under the direction of Governor Juan Jaramillo, has enacted an operational plan to ensure public safety during peak tourist activity. This includes a military deployment, price control measures that lower the VAT to 8%, and strict monitoring of major public events.
The authorities have meticulously distributed event permits for 39 activities, taking into account the preparedness of each canton involved. Most festivities will occur in areas identified as significant tourist hubs, ensuring that visitors have ample opportunities to experience Carnival. The proactive measures are designed not only to enhance visitor experience but also to maintain safety amid the expected influx of tourists.
To further facilitate a safe environment during peak hours, nighttime events will be regulated to conclude by 2:00 AM, with specific time limits set for crucial activities on Carnival Sunday, ending by 5:00 PM. As the festive season draws nearer, the community anticipates both an economic boost from increased tourism and the challenges of managing large crowds effectively.
