Opposition Conservatives in Kaunas to Prepare for Local Elections
The Conservative Party in Kaunas is gearing up for the upcoming local elections by establishing a central election headquarters and discussing candidate procedures.
The opposition Conservative Party (TS-LKD) in Lithuania is set to prepare for the 2027 local elections, with plans to finalize the composition of a central election headquarters and establish procedures for selecting mayoral candidates. Laurynas Kasčiūnas, the head of TS-LKD, indicated that this organizational meeting aims to streamline their electoral strategy and enhance their readiness for the upcoming elections.
In a bid to strengthen their political footprint, the Conservatives are also expected to elect former Finance Minister Gintarė Skaistė as the head of the central election headquarters. This leadership move signals a concerted effort to leverage experience from government roles to support their electoral campaign. Additionally, the Conservatives plan to discuss the current political landscape and endorse a resolution which will provide strategic recommendations regarding national defense to Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė.
With local council and mayoral elections scheduled for late February to early March in 2027, this meeting represents a critical step for TS-LKD as they aim to bolster their position as the largest opposition party in the Seimas, currently holding 28 seats. Their preparations not only highlight internal party organization but also reflect the evolving political dynamics in Lithuania as these elections approach.
