Take a taxi to the hotel! Double No Circulation activated in CDMX and Edomex for February 14
The environmental agency CAMe has announced the continuation of the Double No Circulation measure in Mexico City and the State of Mexico on February 14 due to poor air quality.
The Comisión Ambiental de la Megalópolis (CAMe) has announced the implementation of the Double No Circulation measure in Mexico City (CDMX) and the State of Mexico for February 14. This decision follows a declared atmospheric contingency phase due to high ozone levels affecting air quality in the metropolitan area. The agency noted that the region is currently experiencing a phase I air quality contingency due to elevated ozone pollution and will continue these restrictions to mitigate the effects on public health and the environment.
The announcement comes in light of recent conditions where temperatures are expected to reach up to 29 degrees Celsius, which in turn could lead to further ozone accumulation. As a result, air quality is expected to be rated from 'poor' to 'very poor,' making it unsafe for outdoor activities, especially on a day when many couples would celebrate Valentine’s Day. Consequently, the agency recommends using taxis or public transportation to avoid the traffic limitations imposed by the Double No Circulation rule.
This enforcement not only aims to protect public health during a significant celebration but also underscores the ongoing challenges of air quality management in urban areas. Residents are being advised to stay informed about the air quality index and the implications for outdoor activities as the region continues to battle pollution issues exacerbated by weather patterns and urbanization.
