Once again, CDMX and Edomex ‘escape it’: No Circulate today on Thursday, February 19

Air quality in Mexico City has declined, but there will be no additional 'No Circulate' restrictions for February 19, allowing normal vehicular movement.

Following several days of strict air pollution measures known as Doble Hoy No Circula, normal restrictions will resume in Mexico City and the neighboring State of Mexico without additional restrictions for February 19. On February 18, authorities reported poor air quality due to ozone particles, which had raised concerns among residents regarding vehicular restrictions.

Despite the return to normal traffic regulations, residents are advised to be cautious, especially those who use the Metro de la Ciudad de México, as Line 2 will undergo construction, with alternative transportation services provided by RTP (Red de Transporte de Pasajeros) available for several stations. The Hoy No Circula program operates from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM, targeting the reduction of vehicular emissions and improvement of air quality in the metropolitan area.

Authorities in all 16 boroughs of Mexico City and 18 adjacent municipalities in the State of Mexico enforce penalties for non-compliance with the Hoy No Circula policy, underscoring the initiative’s aim to curtail pollution levels in one of the most populated urban areas in the world. This situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Mexican authorities in balancing urban mobility with environmental health concerns.
