Retail sector in Paraíba records the 3rd highest growth rate in the country in 2025, points out IBGE
The retail sector in Paraíba has achieved the third-highest growth rate in Brazil for 2025, significantly outperforming the national average.
According to data from the Monthly Trade Survey (PMC) released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the retail sector in Paraíba recorded a remarkable growth rate of 4.8% in 2025, making it the third highest in the country. This performance is noteworthy as it is three times the national average growth rate of 1.6% for the same period. This upward trend in retail showcases the region's economic resilience and increased consumer activity.
In the national ranking, only Amapá and Santa Catarina surpassed Paraíba, with growth rates of 8.5% and 5.9%, respectively. The data highlights that December was particularly strong for Paraíba's retailers, with a monthly growth rate of 2.5%. These figures suggest a positive consumer sentiment and possibly reflect the effectiveness of various local retail strategies and economic conditions favorable to purchases during this period.
Moreover, the survey also assessed an expanded retail trade indicator that includes sales in vehicles, motorcycles, parts, and accessories, and showed similar growth patterns. The overall progress of the retail sector could have significant implications for job creation and overall economic health in the region, positioning Paraíba as a notable player in Brazil's retail landscape and encouraging investments in other sectors.
