Civil Police Union of Sergipe announces strike during Carnival
The Civil Police Union of Sergipe has declared a complete strike during Carnival due to stalled negotiations regarding professional improvements.
The Civil Police Union of Sergipe (Sinpol) has announced a total strike during the Carnival period this year, a decision made democratically after three days of discussions that began on February 11. The strike reflects the broader concerns of the police force regarding the lack of progress in negotiations related to their professional recognition and working conditions.
Union president Jean Rezende emphasized that the decision was reached collectively, signifying the urgent need for dialogue with state officials. The representatives also voted unanimously to formally request another meeting with Governor FΓ‘bio Mitidieri to address their concerns. This move suggests a strong commitment among the police to seek improvements in their professional circumstances, as they feel their voices have not been adequately heard in previous negotiations.
The state government and the Department of Public Security (SSP) have yet to respond to the unionβs strike announcement or the demand for a meeting. Should a new development arise, such as a confirmed date for a meeting with the governor, the union has indicated it may reconsider the strike, highlighting the ongoing nature of this labor dispute and its implications on public safety and law enforcement during the festive period.
