INSS CPI asks that Mendonça return Vorcaro documents after Toffoli leaves the case
The president of the INSS parliamentary inquiry committee, Senator Carlos Viana, formally requested that Minister André Mendonça return documents related to Banco Master after he replaced Dias Toffoli in the investigation.
The president of Brazil's National Social Security Institute (INSS) inquiry committee, Senator Carlos Viana, has made a formal request to Minister André Mendonça, the new rapporteur assigned to the Banco Master case by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), to return critical documents concerning banking, fiscal, and telephone confidentiality breaches linked to banker Daniel Vorcaro. Viana emphasized that access to these documents is essential for the committee to consolidate evidence collected and advance the final report’s preparation.
In his statement on social media, Viana underscored the constitutional duty of the commission to thoroughly investigate the facts while maintaining legal due process and total transparency. The urgency of this request is compounded by the recent appointment of Mendonça, who took over the inquiry just after Dias Toffoli stepped down, thereby shifting the dynamics of the investigation into billions of reais in fraud involving Vorcaro's bank.
Furthermore, Viana has announced an upcoming meeting with Mendonça to further discuss the committee's needs and expectations in the aftermath of the Carnival holiday. This illustrates the ongoing efforts of the committee to ensure that its investigative powers are respected and that it can compile a comprehensive account of the alleged fraudulent activities linked to the Banco Master.
