CPI president says he will summon Mendonça for full access to Vorcaro data
The president of Brazil's INSS CPI, Senator Carlos Viana, plans to summon Minister André Mendonça of the Supreme Court regarding the release of confidential data related to Daniel Vorcaro from Banco Master.
Senator Carlos Viana, who is the president of the Congressional Investigation Commission (CPI) focused on the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), announced plans to summon Supreme Court Minister André Mendonça for full access to confidential data regarding Daniel Vorcaro of Banco Master. This move comes amid discussions over the extent of material from banking, fiscal, and telecommunication confidentiality that should be presented to the CPI.
Viana explained that the head of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, informed him that there was a directive from the minister's office to only provide the CPI with information related to payroll loans. However, Viana highlighted that, after consulting with the Senate's legal advisory, they concluded that the CPI is entitled to receive the entire set of documents, rather than a narrowed focus on specific data.
This issue of the scope of the CPI's inquiry raises important questions about accountability and transparency within financial dealings in Brazil. Viana seeks to clarify whether the Federal Police are to conduct any kind of document verification or filtering before handing over materials, underscoring the tension between the needs of thorough investigation and bureaucratic limitations imposed by legal interpretations.
