Tennis player Ostapenko loses in the semifinals of the Doha 'WTA 1000' tournament
Latvian tennis player Jelena Ostapenko was defeated in the semifinals of the Doha WTA 1000 tournament by Kaja Juvan.
Jelena Ostapenko, ranked 24th in the WTA rankings, faced 13th ranked Kaja Juvan in the semifinals of the Doha WTA 1000 tournament. At this tournament, Ostapenko's performance allowed her to earn 390 WTA points, which helps mitigate a potential drop in her ranking had she exited the tournament earlier. Throughout the event, Ostapenko displayed strong skills, defeating several higher-ranked opponents, including Anastasija Zaharova, 6-7 (6:8), 6-3, 6-4, and Yekaterina Alexandrova, the worldβs 10th seed, with a score of 6-4, 6-2. Furthermore, she also claimed victories against Kamilla Osorio and Elisabetta Cocciaretto in earlier rounds.
In addition to her singles performance, Ostapenko is competing in doubles at the tournament as well, where she has reached the semifinals partnered with Taiwan's Su-Wei Hsieh. This doubles run adds another layer to her already impressive showcase in Doha, reinforcing her versatility as a player. Ostapenko has notable previous experience in this event, having previously reached the finals twice, including last year when she was bested by American player Amanda Anisimova. Her strong showing this year reaffirms her status as a competitive force in women's tennis, especially in high-stakes tournaments.
