Ostapenko Loses in Doubles Final at Doha Tournament
Latvian tennis player Jelena Ostapenko and her Taiwanese partner Su Wei Sje lost in the finals of the doubles competition at the Doha WTA 1000 tournament.
Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia, teaming up with Taiwanese player Su Wei Sje, faced a defeat in the doubles final of the Doha "WTA 1000" tournament. They were seeded third in the tournament but lost to the fourth-seeded pair, Anna Danilina from Kazakhstan and Aleksandra Krunic from Serbia, with a match score of 6-0, 6-7 (3-7), 8-10. Their strong performance throughout the tournament earned them 650 WTA doubles ranking points.
Ostapenko and Sje entered the tournament directly into the second round where they triumphed over the Slovenian duo Andreja Klepac and Polish player Katarzyna Piter with a score of 6-3, 6-3. In the quarter-finals, they showcased their skills by defeating Slovak player Teréza Mihalíková and British tennis player Olivia Nicholls convincingly with a score of 6-1, 6-2. In the semi-finals, they claimed victory against the top-seeded Italian duo of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini with a match score of 7-5, 3-6, 10-6.
Despite their impressive run in doubles, Ostapenko did not advance beyond the semi-finals in the singles competition of the same tournament. The Doha tournament is held on hard courts, presenting a unique challenge and opportunity for players to secure important ranking points in their careers.
