Ferryboat Fleet Will Be Expanded During Carnival in Maranhão

The ferryboat service between São Luís and Cujupe will be enhanced during Carnival 2026 to accommodate the increased flow of passengers and vehicles from February 12 to 19.

In preparation for the high volume of travelers expected during Carnival 2026, the ferryboat service between São Luís's Ponta da Espera terminal and Cujupe will undergo a series of enhancements from February 12 to 19. The initiative aims to facilitate smoother boarding and improve service quality during this busy holiday period. The special structure includes modifications to how tickets are sold, particularly on peak days.

During the busiest days, no advance ticket sales will be allowed, ensuring a streamlined boarding process that prioritizes order of arrival. Specifically, at the Ponta da Espera terminal, advance sales will be suspended on February 12, 13, and 14, while the same will be true for the Cujupe terminal on February 17, 18, and 19. This measure is designed to manage the expected surge in passenger numbers effectively and both terminals have prepared for a significant increase in traffic.

The anticipated peak travel days are February 13 and 14 at Ponta da Espera, with heightened activity continuing into Cujupe on February 17, 18, and 19. These adjustments reflect the authorities' commitment to enhancing public transport services during popular holiday periods, not only ensuring safety but also maximizing capacity to benefit everyone intending to use the ferryboat services during Carnival festivities.
