With an expected record audience at the Carnival in BH, the metro extends hours and reduces intervals
Belo Horizonte's metro will operate on a special schedule during Carnival to accommodate an expected 6.5 million revelers.
Belo Horizonte's metro system is set to implement a special operation during the upcoming Carnival, accommodating an anticipated 6.5 million participants spread across approximately 600 street blocks. Enhanced services will be provided from February 14 to 17, with intervals fixed at 10 minutes throughout the day to allow for smoother mobility amidst the festivities. Additionally, certain stations will open earlier to cater to early revelers.
The special operation aims to ensure efficiency and safety for commuters during one of the busiest times of the year in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. Specific stations, such as Novo Eldorado, Eldorado, Vilarinho, and São Gabriel, will have altered hours, opening at 5 am on the first day of Carnival. Post-Carnival, the metro will adjust its schedule to maintain a high frequency of service to handle the transition back to regular operation on Ash Wednesday.
These changes reflect the city's commitment to enhancing public transport during large events, promoting accessibility, and ensuring that attendees can enjoy Carnival with minimal delays. This year, with the expected record numbers, the metro adaptations not only aim to alleviate congestion but also encourage a festive spirit while prioritizing commuter safety.
