After sightings during the day, see how to act when encountering jaguars roaming in Iguaçu Falls park

Experts advise visitors on how to behave when encountering jaguars in Iguaçu National Park following several daytime sighting reports.

Following reports of jaguars roaming during the day at Iguaçu National Park in Foz do Iguaçu, experts are providing guidance to park visitors on how to act if they come across these animals. While the presence of jaguars in the area is a common occurrence, researchers from the Iguaçu Jaguars Project are stressing that there is no cause for alarm, as the animals generally tend to avoid direct contact with humans.

On the previous Monday, a puma was spotted walking along a park internal roadway, accompanied by her cubs. According to Yara Barros, the coordinator of the Iguaçu Jaguars Project, seeing these creatures within the conservation unit is normal and does not signify an atypical situation. The project informs that jaguars are integral to the ecosystem of the region and typically retreat quickly upon noticing nearby individuals.

Even though jaguars are known to frequent areas accessible to the public, monitoring efforts are in place to ensure visitor safety and animal well-being. The researchers emphasize that visitors should remain attentive but calm, understanding that jaguars play a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance of the park and generally prefer to avoid human encounters.
