Civil Defense reinforces scheme at Maricá beaches for Carnival
Maricá's Civil Defense has implemented a special safety plan for the beaches during Carnival, deploying over 150 lifeguards and various operational vehicles.
In anticipation of the Carnival festivities, the Civil Defense of Maricá has organized a comprehensive safety scheme for the local beaches. A total of 153 lifeguards will be stationed along the coast, supported by 17 operational vehicles and 3 boats with teams on board to ensure beachgoers’ safety during this busy period. The safety measures will be in effect from Thursday, February 12, through the following Monday, February 23, specifically catering to the influx of visitors expected for the celebrations.
The plan includes the establishment of 25 fixed lifeguard stations, alongside an additional 24 temporary posts. The forecasts indicate favorable conditions for swimming, with waves of approximately half a meter on Friday through Sunday, while some uptick in wave activity is anticipated for the following Monday and Tuesday, potentially reaching one meter. Maricá's lifeguard Jonathan Pereira emphasized the importance of following safety guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure an enjoyable experience for all beachgoers.
In light of parental concerns, especially regarding lost children in crowded areas, the Civil Defense will also set up three identification tents at strategic locations including Ponta Negra, Rua 4 in Barra, and Recanto in Itaipuaçu, effectively providing a safer environment for families. This initiative not only underscores the municipality’s commitment to safety but also reflects the broader principles of responsible beach management during peak tourist seasons.
