Piauí selects institutions to shelter dogs and cats rescued from mistreatment; see how to participate

Piauí is opening registrations for institutions to propose sheltering dogs and cats rescued from mistreatment during police operations.

The state of Piauí is currently seeking proposals from institutions and organizations to care for dogs and cats that have been victims of mistreatment during police operations. The initiative is part of a broader effort under the State Animal Protection Protocol coordinated by the Piauí Secretary of Environment and Water Resources (Semarh). Interested parties can submit their proposals until March 12, with results expected to be announced on April 1.

The proposals must ensure consistent daily care, including proper feeding, health care, sanitization controls, regular vaccinations, treatment against parasites, hygiene, and microchipping for identification of the animals. This effort signifies an important move towards enhancing the welfare and protection of domestic animals in the region, which has been necessary despite the existence of a wildlife rehabilitation center that focuses on wild animals in Piauí.

This initiative reflects a growing awareness and responsibility towards animal welfare in Brazil, showcasing governmental commitment to improving conditions for rescued pets. By engaging local institutions, the government aims to address the needs of these vulnerable animals and ensure their well-being and safe placements following their rescue from neglect or abuse.
