Campinas signs agreement with PUC Veterinary Hospital to expand care for rescued dogs and cats

The city of Campinas, Brazil, has signed an agreement with PUC-Campinas Veterinary Hospital to enhance care for rescued pets, expanding available services significantly.

On Friday, April 27, the municipal government of Campinas, SΓ£o Paulo, Brazil, formalized an agreement with the veterinary hospital associated with PUC-Campinas to enhance the veterinary care services available for rescued dogs and cats in the city. This initiative aims to improve the support provided to domestic animals that are brought in through the Animal Emergency Service (Samu Animal) or the Department of Protection and Animal Welfare (DPBEA). The new services are set to begin within the next few weeks, broadening the scope of care available to these vulnerable animals.

Currently, the DPBEA offers six essential services, including orthopedic surgeries, soft tissue surgeries, neutering, blood tests, X-rays, and ultrasounds. With the new partnership, the range of services will expand significantly to 27 different services, available 24/7. This includes urgent consultations for cases involving accidents, poisoning, patient hospitalization, and chemotherapy, reflecting a comprehensive approach to animal healthcare in the municipality.

The projected capacity for this expanded program is estimated to treat 1,875 pets, significantly enhancing the city's infrastructure and the level of care provided to abandoned and injured animals. This initiative demonstrates a commitment from the city to prioritize animal welfare and ensure that rescued pets receive necessary medical attention and support, ultimately fostering a more compassionate community toward vulnerable animals.
