Weekend Weather Contrasts: From Drizzle to 28 Degrees of Frost
The weekend weather in Lithuania will see contrasting conditions with snowfall and rain expected on Saturday, while Sunday will be significantly colder and icy in some areas.
Lithuania is bracing for a weekend of contrasting weather conditions, according to Janas Voitkevičius, a forecaster from the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service. On Saturday night, the sky will be overcast with precipitation expected in many areas, predominantly in the form of snow. However, in the southeastern region of the country, rain and sleet will dominate, leading to the potential for freezing rain in some locales. The overnight temperatures are anticipated to range between -6 to -11 degrees Celsius, with even lower temperatures of around -14 degrees Celsius in the northwestern parts of the country.
As Saturday progresses, cloud cover is expected to diminish slightly during the day. Light snow may continue in southeastern Lithuania, with areas of freezing rain and blowing snow. There will be a north wind blowing at 7-12 m/s, and daytime temperatures are likely to remain between -6 and -11 degrees Celsius. The likelihood of black ice forming on roadways poses a travel risk for motorists and pedestrians alike.
By Sunday, the weather forecast indicates a notable change. No snowfall is expected, but icy conditions, especially in the southeastern areas, could pose hazards. Wind speeds will decrease overnight, falling to 4-9 m/s, and the daytime will see a weak wind. However, nighttime temperatures are predicted to drop significantly, reaching between -20 to -25 degrees Celsius, which underscores the sharp cold snap heading into Sunday. Overall, residents should prepare for a weekend filled with unpredictable weather conditions, requiring caution outdoors and be mindful of potential hazards due to icy roads.
