Owners seek new solution for Pirita TOP complex
The owners of the Pirita TOP complex are looking for a new usage and architectural solution for the long-standing Olympic sailing center in Tallinn.
The Pirita TOP complex, a large sailing sports center located at the mouth of the Pirita River in Tallinn, has remained unchanged for years, causing concern about its future utilization. Currently, there is uncertainty over when renovations to the historic site, which is under protection, might commence. The owner company, Tallinn Olympic Sports Center (TOP), has proposed initiating a detailed planning process for the coastal area that includes a redesign of the existing building plan.
As part of this proposal, the owners plan to organize an architectural competition with the intention of constructing a spa hotel with residential units, potentially up to four stories high, on the site. Additionally, the plan includes the establishment of a public urban square and promenade, aimed at revitalizing the area and making it a more modern and vibrant destination. This development could enhance local tourism and recreational opportunities, transforming the complex into a lively hub.
The inclusion of restaurants, cafes, and various leisure activities in the proposed public space suggests a strategic move to attract both residents and visitors, potentially increasing foot traffic and economic activity in this part of Tallinn. However, the timeline for these developments remains uncertain, emphasizing the need for ongoing discussions and planning to ensure that the Pirita TOP complex realizes its full potential as a contemporary landmark in the city.
