TAKE INTO ACCOUNT! ⟩ Roads across the country are snow-covered and icy
Icy and snow-covered roads across Latvia are hindering driving conditions, prompting the involvement of winter maintenance services.
On Friday morning, snowfall and ice are creating challenging driving conditions on Latvia's major and regional roads. The Latvian Road Traffic Agency reports that snow-covered sections of the roads are being cleared and treated with anti-skid materials to ensure safety. A total of 114 winter service vehicles have been deployed to improve road conditions nationwide.
Specific areas experiencing difficult driving conditions include segments of the Tallinn highway (A1) from Berģi to Zvejniekciems, the Vidzeme highway (A2) from Rīga to Augšlīgatne, and the Valmiera highway (A3) from Murjāņi to the Brasla bridge. Additionally, various other highways, including the Rīga bypass and routes towards Daugavpils and Liepāja, are also reported to be in poor condition due to accumulated snow and ice, posing risks for commuters and travelers across the region.
The infrastructure management is crucial during this winter weather, and timely responses from the road maintenance services reflect the ongoing commitment to public safety. As driving becomes more hazardous, authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution and plan their travel accordingly, emphasizing the importance of preparedness during severe weather events. This situation highlights the impact of winter conditions on daily commuting and logistics in Latvia.
