We want people to take away a strong cultural experience – not a memory of someone booing someone else, says the director of EHMK Trenčín
The official program of the European Capital of Culture (EHMK) opens this weekend in Trenčín, Slovakia, focusing on creating a memorable cultural experience rather than negative interactions.
The European Capital of Culture (EHMK) program officially kicks off in Trenčín, Slovakia from Friday to Sunday, marking a significant event for the city after thirteen years. Alongside Finland's Oulu, Trenčín will benefit from substantial investments worth several tens of millions of euros as a result of this prestigious title. The opening weekend is set to attract not only cultural enthusiasts but also officials including Slovakia's Minister of Culture Martina Šimkovičová and diplomats from surrounding countries and representatives of the European Commission.
Stanislav Krajči, the director of the Creative Institute Trenčín which oversees the initiative, emphasized the goal of providing attendees with a joyful and impactful cultural experience. He sought to move away from any negative incidents, such as booing, which could detract from the essence of the event. This focus on fostering positive cultural engagement reflects a broader ambition to position Trenčín on the international cultural map, showcasing its potential to draw attention and investment.
Additionally, Krajči discussed the planned activities for the opening weekend, which will take place in the vibrant streets of Trenčín, along with the decision to hold an official opening at the city’s castle, accessible only by invitation. The reflections on local cultural attitudes indicate a desire for a rejuvenation of cultural appreciation within the community, aiming to leave a lasting positive impression during this landmark event for Trenčín and its residents.
