Pitbull rescued in Nova Odessa without protection against sun and rain, says city hall

A pitbull dog was rescued in Nova Odessa, Brazil, after being found without protection from the elements, according to local authorities.

A pitbull was rescued in Nova Odessa, São Paulo, following reports of abandonment. The city’s Municipal Guard, along with the Zoonoses Control, a city councilor, and the 'Cadeia para Maus-Tratos' project, participated in the rescue operation. The pitbull was found in a residence lacking adequate shelter against sun and rain. Subsequently, it was taken to the Associação dos Amigos dos Animais de Nova Odessa (AAANO) for care and shelter.

The AAANO reported that upon arrival at the shelter, the dog did not have any visible injuries or signs of physical abuse. Its overall health condition was stable, and it was not underweight. However, the organization noted that the dog exhibited signs of extreme hunger and consumed a large amount of food when provided with a meal. At this stage, the AAANO emphasized that it could not conclusively determine if there were any instances of mistreatment, given the circumstances of the dog's living conditions without further examination.

This incident highlights the ongoing issues related to animal welfare and protection in Brazil, specifically the importance of having proper regulations to ensure animals are not abandoned or left in harmful situations. Legislative measures and community awareness are essential to prevent future occurrences and protect vulnerable animals in similar situations.
