Justice condemns São José dos Campos councilman for video with bribery simulation involving city employee

São José dos Campos councilman Thomaz Henrique Alves has been ordered to pay R$ 50,000 for publishing a video that simulated a bribery scenario involving a city inspector.

Thomaz Henrique Alves, a councilman in São José dos Campos, Brazil, has been condemned by the judiciary to pay R$ 50,000 in collective moral damages following the release of a controversial video during the 2024 electoral campaign. The video depicted a fabricated scene where a municipal inspector was portrayed demanding a bribe, referred to as 'cafezinho', from a businessman in exchange for not issuing fines for alleged irregularities. The video included the councilman calling the inspector derogatory names and simulating a physical confrontation, while inviting entrepreneurs to join him in opposing municipal inspectors, which he branded as 'the entrepreneur patrol.'
