Norway buys French glide bombs for Ukraine

Norway is set to purchase a 'large volume' of French glide bombs to donate to Ukraine as part of its ongoing military support.

Norway has announced plans to acquire a substantial number of French glide bombs to be donated to Ukraine. This decision was confirmed by Norway's Defense Minister Tore O Sandvik, who stated that these glide bombs are highly flexible and compatible with the fighter planes currently used by the Ukrainian military. Moreover, he emphasized that Ukrainian forces have prior experience with these types of weapons, ensuring their effective integration into the ongoing conflict.

The acquisition of these glide bombs is part of a more extensive agreement with France. Norway will contribute 4.2 billion Norwegian kroner (approximately 3.9 billion Swedish kronor) to procure military equipment for Ukraine, which highlights Norway's commitment to supporting Ukraine amid its challenging situation. The cooperation also includes France providing a loan of around 3 billion Norwegian kroner as part of this military support initiative.

This move underscores the increasing international military cooperation regarding assistance to Ukraine and reflects a NATO ally’s proactive role in bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities. As the conflict continues, such military acquisitions not only aim to enhance Ukraine’s operational capacity but also demonstrate solidarity among nations invested in a free and secure Europe.
