Norway buys French glide bombs for Ukraine
Norway has reached an agreement with France to provide financial support and military equipment to Ukraine amidst ongoing conflict with Russia.
Norway and France have signed an agreement under which Norway will contribute 4.2 billion kroner to support Ukraine. This collaboration is aimed at enhancing Ukraine's capabilities in monitoring and situational awareness, allowing both countries to cooperate in donating military materials either sourced from the French defense industry or from French stockpiles. The Norwegian government emphasizes the urgency of this intervention as Ukraine faces unprecedented military, civilian, and humanitarian needs amid ongoing Russian aggression, particularly as it enters its fourth winter since the full-scale invasion.
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr StΓΈre highlighted the critical situation in Ukraine, outlining how the new agreement represents a significant step in delivering essential support. The financial commitment includes an initial 4.2 billion kroner from Norway, complemented by a loan guarantee of approximately 3 billion kroner from France. This initiative builds upon a strategic partnership established in the previous year, demonstrating a continued commitment to bolster Ukraine amidst its challenging circumstances.
With this agreement, Norway not only provides substantial financial resources but also strengthens its military and diplomatic ties with France, showcasing a unified European response to the crisis. The implications of this support extend beyond immediate military needs, potentially enhancing Ukraine's long-term defense capabilities and reinforcing international alliances against Russian aggressions. Norway's involvement highlights a broader commitment among European nations to collaborate in offering support to Ukraine during this persistent conflict.
