"For our homes, this is help": women from Monte Sinaí make 800 desserts for Valentine's Day as an income alternative

In preparation for Valentine's Day, over a hundred women from popular sectors in Guayaquil have made more than 800 sweets to be sold at various locations in the city.

In anticipation of Valentine's Day, more than a hundred women from the popular neighborhoods of Guayaquil have banded together to produce over 800 desserts, primarily Red Velvet and truffle chocolate cakes. This initiative is designed to provide an income alternative for these women, many of whom are heads of households and lack formal employment. The project is part of a program spearheaded by the Prefecture of Guayas, aiming to empower these women economically and socially.

The project, which began with 107 women last year, has seen an increase in participation with 20 additional members this year, highlighting its growing impact within the community. Notably, 77% of the participants are women, but the program is inclusive of men as well. Ages of participants range widely from 18-year-olds to seniors above 65, showcasing the intergenerational appeal and community solidarity fostered by this initiative.

The desserts produced will be made available until February 15 at various points throughout Guayaquil, making them accessible for those looking to celebrate the Day of Love and Friendship. This endeavor not only serves to provide festive treats but also empowers local women by enhancing their skills in baking and entrepreneurship, thus contributing to their financial stability and community relations.
