Finnish architect built a mobile spider sauna in New York - this is what it looks like
A Finnish architect has constructed a mobile sauna in New York as part of the city's first sauna village.
A Finnish architect, Sami Rintala, has created a mobile sauna called Attercop as part of New York City's first sauna village, which is set to open soon. The sauna village, part of the Culture of Bathe-ing event, features nearly twenty temporary sauna rooms, with Attercop being the largest and able to accommodate 70 bathers. The opening of this sauna has faced delays due to severe weather conditions, which have significantly impacted New York City recently.
Rintala has been actively involved in the construction of Attercop, and the project has experienced some challenges due to freezing temperatures, with reports indicating as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius. It has been noted that snowfall in recent days has disrupted local traffic and waste management, forcing pedestrians to walk in the streets due to impassable sidewalks. This situation has added complexity to the project's timeline and logistical operations.
Despite these obstacles, Rintala remains optimistic, highlighting the enthusiasm surrounding the sauna culture that is spreading in the U.S. The opening, eagerly awaited by both locals and tourists, is expected to draw significant attention as it showcases Finnish bathing traditions in an urban setting. The relationship between Finnish wellness practices and urban living is thereby accentuated, offering a unique experience for New Yorkers.
