The sauna boom is now spreading in Finland like an itch – here's why

The sauna market in Finland has seen rapid growth, particularly in the sales of small saunas, following a new construction law that allows the building of small structures without permits.

In Finland, the sauna culture is thriving, with significant growth observed in the sauna market, especially for smaller, outdoor saunas. According to a report from K-Rauta, the sales of saunas less than 30 square meters quadrupled in comparison to 2024, driven largely by changes in construction laws. Starting January 2025, new regulations allow for the construction of buildings measuring up to 30 square meters or 120 cubic meters without a building permit, provided there is available construction rights on the plot. This legal change has not only invigorated the sauna market but has also stimulated sales in related sectors, such as outdoor constructions.
