The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria has arrested three individuals over the alleged mutilation of the Naira, specifically a ₦500 note. The suspects, Adam Muhammad, Muhammad Muhammad, and Bashir Musa, were apprehended after a video surfaced on social media showing them using the currency note to clean their noses. This act sparked outrage and prompted the EFCC to initiate an investigation.

According to a statement from the EFCC's spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the video was significant enough to trigger an inquiry that allowed investigators to trace the suspects quickly within the Maiduguri area. The EFCC has emphasized that the mutilation of currency is a serious offense and indicated that these arrests are part of a broader effort to uphold the integrity of the Nigerian currency system.

Currently, the suspects are in the custody of the EFCC at their Maiduguri detention facility, where further investigations are ongoing.
