NSCDC arrests 16 over fake $600,000, firearms, others
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested 16 individuals for various offenses, including possession of counterfeit currency and unlawful firearms.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has made significant progress in crime prevention by arresting 16 individuals implicated in several criminal activities. The arrests were part of coordinated operations carried out by the Commandant Generalβs Special Intelligence Squad and the NSCDC Kano State Command in two states: Kano and Edo. Among those arrested are suspects facing serious charges including the possession of counterfeit American currency, illegal firearms, illegal mining operations, and suspected kidnapping activities.
Notably, one suspect, Abbas Garkuwa, was arrested in Kano State after being found in possession of counterfeit US dollars amounting to $600,000, valued at nearly 1 billion Naira. Garkuwa had previously defrauded a victim by issuing fake dollars under the pretense of a currency exchange scheme. This operation underscores the NSCDC's commitment to combating financial crime and safeguarding public welfare by addressing various forms of illegal activities that threaten community safety.
The implications of these arrests are multi-faceted; they not only disrupt the operations of criminal networks involved in financial fraud but also send a strong message about the enforcement of laws against illegal possession of firearms and other crimes. With rising security concerns in Nigeria, such proactive measures by law enforcement agencies highlight their ongoing efforts to maintain peace and order, as well as to build public trust in their operations.
