Six personnel of the Okpoko Police Division in Anambra State have been detained following allegations of extortion against a local trader. The incident, which came to light through a circulated video, involved the officers allegedly stopping the victim, a drink seller, while he was returning from Relief Market in Onitsha. Despite presenting valid documents for his vehicle, the officers reportedly harassed him, handcuffed him, and extorted money through a Point of Sale (PoS) device.

The video, in which the victim's wife detailed the incident, highlighted the troubling practices commonly associated with police interactions in Nigeria, especially concerning extortion. The wife explained that her husband was intercepted at the busy Upper Iweka flyover area, and although he had all necessary documents intact, the officers continued with their unlawful demands.
