According to a market research study conducted by the Greek Embassy's Economic and Commercial Affairs Office in Rome, Greece stands out as the undisputed leader in cotton production across Europe, accounting for approximately 80% of the overall EU output. However, on a global scale, Greece is considered only a regional player, possessing minimal influence on pricing dynamics. The report emphasizes that despite Greece's significant share in Europe, its contributions on the world stage are overshadowed by larger countries such as China, India, Brazil, and the United States that dominate the global cotton market.

The research points out that while Greece's cotton production may be limited internationally, it is highly regarded for its exceptional quality. This high-quality cotton plays a strategic role in supporting the European textile industry. The findings shed light on the distinction between the raw material production primarily occurring outside of Europe and the European focus on processing, manufacturing, and fashion, thereby highlighting the continent's value-added contributions to the cotton supply chain.

Additionally, the study notes that Greece and Spain are the only cotton-producing countries within Europe, marking their exclusive role in this agricultural sector. This exclusive standing may lead to heightened interest in Greek cotton as European manufacturers seek reliable, high-quality raw materials, potentially positioning Greece as a critical player in the sustainable supply chain of the cotton industry in Europe.
