Clothing - Textiles: Exports decreased by 7.2% in 2025
Greek exports in the clothing and textile sector fell by 7.2% in 2025 due to inflation and changes in consumer behavior.
In 2025, Greek exports in the clothing and textile sector recorded a 7.2% decline, according to the Association of Knitwear and Ready-Made Clothing Enterprises of Greece (SEPEE). The total value of Greek clothing and textile exports amounted to €1.54 billion in 2025, down from €1.66 billion in 2024. This downturn has been attributed to persistent stagnation in clothing consumption driven by inflation across most markets and shifts in consumer behavior over the past three years.
Specifically, clothing exports reached €780 million in 2025, showing a slight increase of 1%. Notably, the value of woven garment exports surpassed knitted garment exports for the first time in the industry's long history. Meanwhile, textile exports totaled €425 million, marking a decline of 4.5%. The exports of cotton saw a significant drop of 25%, primarily due to adverse conditions in the international cotton market.
These export trends reflect broader economic challenges impacting the Greek textile industry, such as inflation and changing consumer habits. The ongoing decrease in demand may pose risks to the industry's future growth, potentially affecting employment and production levels in Greece as businesses navigate these challenging market conditions.
